Forest Practices supervisors continue their learning in latest Forest Practices Authority training course

Private Forests Tasmania Operations Manager Jarrod has continued to support the Forest Practices Authority's Forest Practices for Supervisors Course through delivery of the Native Forest Silviculture module. The module was presented by PFT Operations Manager Jarrod Burn in mid-September, providing participants with an overview of the principles and practices used to sustainably manage Tasmania's native forests.

The session formed part of the Forest Practices Authority's Forest Practices for Supervisors Course, which supports the development of forestry professionals responsible for supervising operations across Tasmania.

The session explored the role of silviculture in achieving a range of forest management objectives, including timber production, forest health, biodiversity conservation, and other ecosystem services. Participants worked through the key principles that underpin Tasmania's forest practices system and considered how silvicultural decisions influence long-term forest outcomes.

The session balanced silvicultural theory with practical examples and discussion drawn from real-world forestry operations.

Jarrod said a lot of the value comes from sharing experiences and talking through situations supervisors are likely to encounter in the field.

"Future supervisors play an important role in ensuring forest operations meet both management objectives and the requirements of Tasmania's forest practices system."

The Forest Practices for Supervisors Course continues to play an important role in building capability across Tasmania's forestry sector and supporting the delivery of safe, sustainable and well-managed forest operations.
