Incentivising Tasmanian farmers in the establishment of new commercial tree plantings

Stems for CO2 Program

The Stems for CO2 2024 Grant Program is supported by the State Government's Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania (ReCFIT) and supports applicants with upfront establishment costs to enable them to integrate trees into their agricultural enterprise.

The program supports the implementation of commercial tree plantings in the agricultural landscape for modelling carbon abatement levels, improved farm productivity, water quality, biodiversity, reducing soil erosion, creating a future wood resource, and communicating and educating the Tasmanian community on the benefits of trees on farms.

Applications closed on 8 March 2024 with three successful landowners receiving a portion of $442k in grant funding.

Plantings will commence in Winter 2025.

Trees on Farms Program

(Integrated Farm Forestry Demonstration Sites Program Round 2)

The Trees on Farms program was facilitated by Private Forests Tasmania to support farmers in the establishment of new commercial trees on farms preparing for a carbon-neutral economy.

The right trees in the right place can increase farm productivity, improve water efficiency and water quality, improve the carbon balance, protect the land for future, and create high-value timber products.

Applications closed on 7 February 2022 with six successful applicants receiving a portion of $600k in grant funding.

Landscape Scale Demonstration Sites Program

(Integrated Farm Forestry Demonstration Sites Program Round 1)

The Landscape Scale Demonstration Sites Program led by Private Forests Tasmania and co-funded through the federal government (Smart Farming Grant), sought to develop a landscape-scale best practice integration of shelterbelts and woodlots into the Tasmanian agricultural landscape whilst demonstrating the multiple benefits of trees on farms.

Applications closed on 30 June 2020 with seven successful applicants receiving $600k in grant funding.
