Webinar: Planting Trees on Farms – Implications for Biodiversity

Sept 25, 2024

How does planting native tree species affect biodiversity on farms? With support from MLA, AWI, and other partners, the "Sustainable Pathways to CN30" project is exploring this by developing farm system interventions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions while boosting productivity, profitability, and biodiversity. This research spans various production systems and agroecological regions across Australia.

One key intervention being studied is the planting of native vegetation on farms. Using advanced spatial and dynamic models, the research team has tracked changes in biodiversity indicators across several case study farms.

This webinar will share the latest findings on how planting environmentally appropriate trees impacts biodiversity in both the short and long term. Topics will include habitat for threatened species, species persistence, and ecosystem services.

Also discussed will be how climate, environmental, and agricultural data can be monitored through digital dashboards, and integrating this information into farm natural capital accounts.
